The Biodiversity Protection and Patrol (BP3) programme, which commenced in 2019, has emerged as a cornerstone of the country's tiger conservation strategy, delivering what officials describe as genuinely encouraging results in reversing decades of decline that brought the species to the brink of regional extinction.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup announced the progress during the World Tiger Day 2026 celebration in Alor Gajah, emphasizing that collaborative monitoring between the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) and partner non-governmental organisations has documented positive population trends.
