Three people, including a woman, have been arrested in Pekan following an investigation into the sale and forgery of medical leave certificates. The arrests came after the District Health Office lodged a report on June 10 based on information from someone who had purchased one of the fraudulent documents. Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin identified the detainees as men and a woman all in their 30s, working as a mechanic, workshop proprietor and cleaner respectively. They were taken into custody at approximately 3 pm on June 15 and are suspected of operating as middlemen in the operation.

The counterfeit certificates were reportedly being distributed at prices ranging from RM50 to RM200 per document. A medical officer whose signature appeared on the certificates confirmed to authorities that he had been reassigned to another facility in 2023 and that the official stamp used was obsolete. This discrepancy helped investigators identify the documents as fraudulent.

Investigators believe the scheme was structured and systematic in nature, with the detained individuals assigned to recruit buyers and oversee distribution networks. Police are now actively searching for the primary suspect, believed to be a female government health worker employed at a clinic who is alleged to have supplied the forged certificates.

The three arrested suspects will appear before the Pekan Magistrate's Court on June 16 for a remand application. The police are pursuing charges under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which relate to forgery and fraud respectively.
