Water shortages plaguing high-rise residential complexes in Sabah are about to ease, with authorities moving forward on infrastructure improvements targeting the Puncak Gloxinia Condominium in Kinarut. The state has greenlit construction of 10 suction tanks, each holding 10,000 gallons of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), to bolster water storage capacity at the sprawling civil servant housing estate that currently serves more than 1,200 residential units across six blocks.

The initiative represents a measured response to recurring water supply disruptions that have long frustrated residents at Puncak Gloxinia, particularly during periods when the main distribution network experiences interruptions. Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, the Papar Member of Parliament and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, outlined the project following an inspection of the tank construction site and subsequent briefing with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on July 28. The Sabah State Water Department will accompany the 10 new suction tanks with an additional 600 metres of connecting pipeline infrastructure, designed to integrate the new storage capacity seamlessly with the existing distribution system. This supplementary piping represents critical ancillary work; without properly engineered connections, the new tanks would remain isolated storage installations rather than functional components of an integrated water management ecosystem.
